Louise Vilstrup, Singer Song/writer. August Edition

Louise Vilstrup. I met her in the London Jivamukti Yoga School. I was mesmerised by her voice, and her magic. She reminds me of the healing touch a voice can give. She brings a sweet nectar to my spirit, that I hope you can feel as I introduce you to her music and her story... 1. Tell us 3 things about you? I'm half Thai and half Danish. I grew up in Denmark, Thailand and Sweden. And now I live in London :) I love practicing asana :) And when I'm not sleeping, I like to dream.

2. What feels like love to you? What feels like love to me? Being engulfed in nature.. Looking up into the sky.. Or walking by the sea in Sweden (where I grew up.. In Skanör). Spending time with my other half, close friends, family.. Cooking together, laughing together.. And playing music of course (preferably together with other musicians). All in all.. feeling a sense of connection to other beings.

3. What is your favourite song? I don't have a favourite song because I have such a wide taste in music. I love so much music!

4. What are you afraid of? I'm definitely afraid of heights.. But I did Bungy Jump once when I was in Nepal and it was so scary. Yet I had to do it. There is something about facing your fears.. Yes.. I will admit, I'm even afraid of being on stage.. Yet, I do it every week or so..

5. Share with us one of your favourite recipes... One of my favourite recipes is a vegetarian/vegan yellow curry: * Fresh tumeric, (or tumeric powder) * Ginger * Garlic * Lime * Coconut oil * Courgette * Shitake mushrooms * Yellow/red peppers * Asparagus * Chick peas * Coconut milk

Cut/press a few pieces of tumeric. Or use 1-2 spoons of tumeric. Fry in coconut oil. Add garlic. Fry for 2mins and then add half a can of coconut milk. Add chick peas and fry for 2-4mins. Add the rest of the chopped vegetables. Fry until cooked and then add the rest of the coconut milk. Boil for 15mins. Add some fresh lime juice. Serve with brown rice and sprinkle coriander on top! yummy.

6. Share with us how did you start singing and how do you come up with each song? I started singing when I was very young. My Mom was a singer and always sat playing and singing at the piano. I was very shy singing in-front of people though.. Never pictured myself becoming a singer.. But I loved singing and always took part in school choirs and sang at home as much as time allowed. I never pursued singing or took it seriously until I was a lot older.

How do I come up with each song? They all have their own journey. Some are written in a day.. Some took 1-2 years. Haha! They usually happen very spontaneously and unplanned. But sometimes I'll have a melody or some chords for weeks without an idea for it.. And then all of a sudden, the idea appears. I do believe that, the more you put into something the more you'll get out of it. But sometimes with art, or anything creative, it never feels finished and at some point you just have to let it go..

7. The best advice you had been given. Hmm.. I was once looking after a young child, and he pushed an ice-cream into my face.. I started getting annoyed.. But he said 'don't be so serious!' We both laughed.

Her song Antigravity... is also part of the song of the month in August. Keep an eye on her, as new more music is coming.
